LAYA HEALTHCARE

SUPER TROOPERS

Real Nation developed Super Troopers, a ‘Health Homework Programme’ for primary schools to encourage increased well-being in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and mental health (mindfulness) in 2014. The team behind the creation of the programme in Real Nation included psychologists, teachers, and implementation specialists as well as external specialists in nutrition, well-being and physical activity. The inaugural pilot registered 300 schools, but phenomenally grew to include 1400 schools by 2016/17 making it one of the biggest (and fastest growing initiatives) in Irish schools.

Participating schools operate a Super Troopers activity journal and wall chart for each child to bring home to do as homework. The activities in the journal are to help children meet the daily recommended activity guidelines of 60 minutes, by completing quick and easy 10-15 minutes activity each evening as part of their homework. The journal is a great way for children and their families to become more involved in physical activity together, by encouraging the benefits of a healthy lifestyle in a fun way.

Real Nation devise all the activities and produce in the journal, recruit the schools, organise all logistics in getting 200,000 journals to schools, and handhold registered schools throughout the academic year.

This is the first programme of its type in Ireland, and we are delighted with its success. Real Nation surpassed all expectations and managed every aspect of this programme expertly – from developing meaningful educational programme that really works for teachers, children and families to recruiting schools, engaging them and supporting them throughout and underpinning the programme with evidence to ascertain an increased level of activity, diet, concentration and overall wellbeing of the children participating in the programme. As a result of the success of’ Super Troopers with Laya Healthcare’, it is hoped that parents/teachers will see a more active child, improved concentration levels, better sleep patterns, increased confidence and a happier child. I could not recommend Real Nation more highly – they really know education, schools, students and teachers.
